2027 Season Tryouts
Statesville FC competes at the semi-pro level in the NPSL, and our fans and city deserve nothing less. Here's how to earn your spot on the badge.
Before you register, take a minute to understand our player pathway. We run three connected programs, each with its own commitment level and its own road in. Find the one that fits where you are right now.
The Player Pathway
Three programs. One club. Every path leads back to game day at Greyhound Hollow.
1st Team
NPSLOur Tier 1 squad, competing at the official semi-pro level within the National Premier Soccer League.
What it takes
- Available for selection mid-April through the first week of August (NPSL National Championship Finals)
- Fully match fit, with no current injuries
- Already at the fitness level required to compete at this tier
- Ready to be a full-time soccer player on and off the pitch, including social content, community engagement, daily training, and game day travel
Selected players receive housing (for those outside a 60-minute drive), away game transport, pre-game meals, training and match uniforms, professional-level training and facilities, group activities, and pro pathway education and exposure.
How to get on the roster
- Phase 1 (Day 1): Introduction with 1st team coaching staff, followed by a 90-minute training session and small-sided games, including GK-specific training.
- Phase 2 (Day 2): AM session on technical ability, tactical awareness, physical capacity, and leadership. PM session tests four-corner abilities through 11v11 play.
- Phase 3 (Day 3): Full match day setup at Statesville High's Greyhound Hollow, The Ville Stadium. Coaching staff review footage and extend official semi-pro contracts to successful recruits.
Players are notified by email at the end of each phase whether they've moved on.
Can't make it in person?
Send a full player resume with supporting documents, plus a highlight reel and full game footage (3 to 4 minutes max), to admin@statesvillefootball.club. Subject the email with your name and "SVFC Recruitment," and note which program you're pursuing (NPSL 1st Team, UPSL Reserves, etc).
If your materials make the short list, our coaching and scouting staff will reach out to schedule an interview. The final step is a call between our 1st Team Head Coach and your most recent club or college coach to verify your resume.
Include several ways to reach you: email, cell, home number, WhatsApp. If we can't connect with you, we can't select you.
RL Team
NPSL RegionalOur continued support squad for the 1st team, eligible for call-up to the game-day roster of 18 at any time.
What it looks like
This team travels with the squad of 18 and plays an earlier kickoff than the NPSL 1st team game, against the opponent's RL squad at the same location.
Players receive the same benefits and programming as the 1st team's selected 18, and if you're not selected to play in a given week, this is where you keep developing your game.
How to get on the roster
Selection follows the same process as the 1st team. RL rosters are filled internally from players already in the 1st team program, so your route in is the same open tryout or recruitment packet process above.
Reserve Team
UPSL · Development SquadThe top level of our Pro Pathway, competing in the United Premier Soccer League across Fall and Spring seasons.
What it takes
- Willingness to train 3 to 4 nights per week, depending on the season's schedule
- Ability to travel to and from all games, including away games
- Openness to consistent evaluation for 1st team selection
Every Reserve player gets a 15-week training and league program, an end-of-season tournament each Fall and Spring, pro-level coaching, specialized GK training, video analysis technology, and an Individual Development Plan. Scholarships, financial aid, and payment plans are available.
How to get on the roster
- Attend an open tryout date specific to the Reserve Team, typically in November with supplemental dates in December and January. Plan to attend both nights.
- Try out for the 1st team. If you're not quite ready for that level yet, you may be offered a spot here for further development.
